More capacity through digitization Deutsche Bahn uses innovative software for faster rail freight transport Efficient and paperless handling in terminals
An innovative application gets goods on the climate-friendly rail faster. Deutsche Bahn (DB) presented the new digital and paperless processing with the “CONROO” software application from the start-up of the same name at the freight terminal in Munich-Riem. This allows DB to make optimum use of the freight terminal's capacity, trains can be assembled more quickly and truck drivers save time. Digital and paperless processing means that goods are processed much faster, more conveniently and in a more environmentally friendly way.
Following successful test phases at the Frankfurt am Main, Kornwestheim and Ulm terminals, the app is now officially launched in Munich. DB is thus the first terminal operator to use smart technology.
Andreas Schulz, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene und Straße (DUSS): “We are seizing the opportunities of digitalization: With this innovative application, we can utilize our infrastructure more evenly and use it more efficiently. This creates additional capacity for more goods on climate-friendly rail. Our customers save valuable time, and with the data and advance information, we optimize our operations and avoid unnecessary crane trips. In this way, we are reducing CO emissions, saving paper and making rail freight transport even more efficient and climate-friendly. ”
Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport “We are promoting the transfer of freight traffic from road to rail. This is particularly important on the Brenner axis, for example, as truck traffic has particularly serious disadvantages for residents here. Digitalization helps us to increase efficiency. This works particularly well when the data can flow through and there are no system breaks. The Free State of Bavaria is therefore promoting networking between the various players in the freight transport sector so that they can set up such a continuous system. ”
Felix Paul Czerny, managing director of CONROO GmbH: “Digitally organized logistics is good for the economy, prosperity and the climate. Together with Deutsche Bahn, we create lean processes, increase data availability and automate data exchange. In this way, we optimally balance the times of trains and trucks. This frees up important resources in logistics. Deutsche Bahn has connected to our platform simply and easily. ”
Truck drivers can manage their orders in eight languages. The software shows the status of the freight at any time and informs truckers about the order at the transhipment station. Using their mobile phones, they simply book a time slot for loading and can easily add missing freight data.
Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene — Straße (DUSS) operates more than 20 transhipment terminals and is one of the largest terminal operators in Germany. With a throughput of around 2.2 million load units per year, the subsidiary of DB Netz AG, Deutsche Bahn AG and Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co. KG is a leading provider in the combined transport terminal business, even by European standards.
The smart application was developed by Nuremberg-based start-up CONROO and tested it with DUSS. CONROO closes the logistics communication chain through smart and optimal exchange of information between terminals, depots and freight forwarders. Capacities during off-peak hours can thus be better used through intelligent time slot management.
