Eurogate digitizes container collection

The terminal operator is introducing a new process for the delivery and delivery of containers to its plant in the Port of Hamburg, which is to become mandatory from May. The mobile app is to be launched at other locations later this year. Transport companies are divided in two ways about the new solution and want an app for the entire port.

On Wednesday (March 20), terminal operator Eurogate will introduce a new process for the delivery and delivery of containers at its plant in the Port of Hamburg. The haptic trucker card that truck drivers have used to log on to the terminal is gradually being replaced by a digital solution from start-up company Conroo. To this end, the start-up's existing mobile app will be supplemented with a new function called “Gate Pass” for processes at seaport terminals.

“For Eurogate, the app means an enormous simplification of the process (...) both for truckers and for our terminals, while at the same time significantly increasing security,” says Michael Blach, Chairman of Group Management at Eurogate, explaining the decision for the new process.

The digital solution is intended to prevent the transfer of access authorization, as was quite common among drivers with the haptic card, by requiring truckers to personally verify themselves in the app. This is intended to increase the security of the process. In addition, the developers promise more efficient and climate-friendly processes at the terminal, as the digital solution should save drivers stops and journeys.

The companies in the port are divided in two as to the solution. In conversation with DVZ, individual freight forwarders who were involved in the test phase of the Conroo app generally welcome an improvement in processes and higher safety standards. At the same time, they note that different (digital) solutions mean more effort and higher costs for drivers and companies. In addition to the app for the Eurogate terminal, competitor HHLA offers a similar solution for its terminals with “Passify”. In addition, there are sometimes other programs from individual depots and apps from the freight forwarders themselves. Companies therefore want a uniform solution for the entire port.

The makers of Conroo explain that, as a neutral provider, they are pursuing exactly this goal and emphasize that their app is already being used at various hinterland locations, such as the DUSS KV terminals. The digital process has recently also been available at the depot of Eurogate subsidiary Remain in the Port of Hamburg.
