Bavarian start-up develops app to improve rail freight transport

The new app from Bavarian start-up CONROO is intended to encourage more companies to use the German rail network to transport goods. This new technology was presented by Deutsche Bahn AG at the freight yard in Munich-Riem.

Speed and efficiency are of central importance in the logistics sector, but the transportation of trucks in rail freight terminals can be delayed, particularly when demand is high.

The new CONROO application will help carriers work more efficiently at terminals. According to the start-up company, truck drivers can check the status of their load at any time via the app.

In this way, drivers can book a period for loading via their mobile phone and thus avoid peak hours at the terminal. In addition, the digital exchange of data between the terminal and the carriers should speed up the processing of goods.

The German railway infrastructure company Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene — Straße (DUSS), one of the largest providers in Germany, has already tested the application. According to the company, the digital organization of logistics helps with rapid processing and is good for the economy, prosperity and the climate.

Allianz Pro Schiene, an independent, non-profit German association for the promotion of safe and sustainable road transport, is pleased with the innovations in rail transport. Rail freight transport is expected to be used by up to 25 percent by 2030 — the share is currently 18 percent nationwide.
